Chivalry has to be the most brutal melee combat games out there. It has the detailed gore where you can see the bones detaching from the limbs, and if their head doesn't flail to the ground then it is being held in place by some sort of ligaments. I am glad they focused on the gameplay and experience more than they did in customization and weapon variety because this game has very tight gameplay mechanics and the weapons don't have that restraining feel like you get when you try fighting someone in your dreams. This game knows what it wants to be, and it isn't the CoD of Medieval games. The attacks feel raw with every impact. Every spree makes you feel genuinely powerful.
The game is very easy to pick up and isn't overly complex when it comes to attacking, but you are HARSHLY punished with every attack you miss; you loose stamina and you are wide open for attack from any direction.
My only complaint about this game is that the server list is still very bugged out to the point where servers will tell you that 14/32 player slots are filled when in fact it's only about 3 or 4 people having duels.
Speaking of duels, fist fighting. When you beat someone in a fist fight in Chivalry, you get that satisfying feeling that you get when you win a fist fight in real life; well, that is if you ever gotten in a fist fight you would also know that punching someone in the face really hard will warrant a bruised knuckle. anyway, the duels in the game are mostly mind games. Are you going to fake that swing in hopes of the other guy falling for it? or are you going to go for a straight poke in the face ending that duel? also, fuck those pussy ass shields. Those pieces of shits were made for people new to the game or if you are going on a full charge against an archer or two...specially those fucking crossbows...oh, and mind those spears!
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare gets a 5/5
1 - Every swing feels like it has that genuine weight to it, more with each impact. The smaller the weapon, the faster you fight, the bigger the weapon, et cetera.
2 - The gore and blood looks beautiful specially when you have it all over you after cracking a few skulls in a row
3 - Although it doesn't have a lot of maps this far in the release, they each have their own set of goals and their own distinct atmosphere.
4 - This game in max settings...is truly touching upon what the Unreal Engine 3 is capable of.
5 - The overall experience, not to mention the voice acting in this game make it feel like an actual medieval fight is going on.
Things I hope to see in the future with this game:
-Pirates and Viking themed maps/models
-American Football in a medieval setting
-Some kind of Joust/Capture the Flag hybrid where you have to take the flag to the enemy's flag post.
-Another castle seige map
Can't wait for the official Duel game mode/map!
